Biography

Andrew Miller is a doctoral candidate in the Political Science Department and Security Studies Program. His research explores interactions among criminal groups, state institutions, and citizens to understand power dynamics in communities. He combines experimental methods with qualitative evidence as well as leverages observational data from emerging communications technologies.

Prior to MIT, he was an assistant director and research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations' Center for Preventive Action. His field experience includes work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, among elsewhere.

His work has been funded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice, Notre Dame’s Global Religion Research Initiative, the Templeton Foundation, and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), among other sources.
